Travelling alone, particularly for the first time can be quite daunting. One of the biggest questions people ask me is. Will i meet people or how can i meet people when travelling alone. Everyone seems to have this fear that if they leave to a new country alone, they will be travelling alone. Here's my advice on how you can meet people while you're travelling.
Stay in Hostels- Firstly just stay in hostels if you're travelling alone. If you stay in a hotel, there are going to meet a lot less people to meet. In hostels it's easy to meet loads of people, in the kitchen, in the chill areas and even in your rooms. There will also be loads of other solo travellers staying in hostels too.
Contact Your friends that Live There- If you have friends that live in the destination you're visiting then hit them up. This gives you some people to hang out with and may lead to you meeting more people.
Volunteer- Volunteering is a great way to meet new people. There will be loads of other people doing the same, and gives you a great opportunity to meet new people, locals and travellers, which can be great fun.
Talk to Everyone- This is the biggest one for me. Just talk to everyone and be friendly. Say hi to everyone in your dorm room and ask where they are from, how long they've been travelling, just the usual questions. Do the same in the kitchen and at breakfast, ask what they're doing today and where they are heading, and ask them if you can join.
Take Trips and Tours- Booking yourself onto trips and tours is a great way to meet new people, as there will be loads of other people doing the tours with you. Again be friendly and chat to people and i'm sure you'll meet loads of people.
Make Use of Free City Tours- Free city tours are another great way to meet a load of people. They are offered throughout most cities, and you just go to the meeting place and they show you around. There will be loads of other people there, so it's a great way to meet people.
