Banh Mi- This was probably my favourite Vietnamese food. They vary on fillings depending on where you get them, but it's essentially a Vietnamese sandwich. They can be bought on street stalls ridiculously cheap. They are usually filled with a mixture of vegtables, pates, a range of meat slices and sauces, and sometimes egg. They do range everywhere you buy them, so some you make like more than others.
Goi Cuon (Spring Rolls)- This is one of Vietnam's more famous dishes and tourists love it. They are basically spring rolls, just not fried so they taste really fresh. They are packed with all kinds of greens and coriander. And then you can either have them filled with pork, shrimp or chicken. They are usually served with some sort of sauce to dip them in, usually chilli.
Banh Khot- These are delicious mini crispy rice pancakes, topped with shrimp and a range of herbs. They are absolutely delicious. They are also often served with some sort of dipping sauce, and can be found most places in Vietnam.
Pho- Noodle soup, and Vietnam's national dish. It's basically a noodle soup, served with some greens, a range of spices and flavours, rice noodles and then some sort of meat. Really delicious and found most places in Vietnam.
Vietnamese Coffee- Vietnamese coffee also known as Ca Phe Da. This is a really hard one to explain it's unlike any other coffee i have ever tasted. You just kind of have to try it for yourself. The first time i had it i didn't really like it, but then it grew on me, and by the end of my Vietnam trip i loved it, so give it a few tries. It can be bought hot or iced.
Op la- This is basically just means egg, but you can get it served with noodles and a selection of meats and it's delicious and makes the perfect breakfast, i loved it with rice noodles and pork.
Bun Cha- These are best found in Hanoi. They are essentially little hamburgers. The pork patties are grilled on usually a BBQ, and then served with an assortment of vegetables and rice noodles. They can be bought on loads of street stalls in Hanoi.
Cha Ca- This is a seafood dish and it's really delicious. It's made up of white fish which has been cooked with dill, spring onions, butter and usually peanuts, then it's served with rice noodles.
Bo Luc Lac- This is another incredibly delicious Vietnamese dish. It's beef that's been sauteed in a selection of spices, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, pepper and a soy sauce dish. It's often served with rice noodles or rice. It's also known as shaking beef.
Banh Tet- These are sticky rice cakes and are delicious. They can often be found during any time of the year, but are really popular around Vietnamese New Year. You can find these rice cakes filled with an assortment of things, the most popular is mung bean paste. They are really tasty and you will find them wrapped in Banana Leaves, and mostly just sold in carts on the streets.
