There are quite a few benefits to using airbnb over hotels or hostels, there are disadvantages to, like you don't meet as many people, and you never really know what the people who are renting the room are going to be like. But i guess that's the same with a hostel or hotel, you still never really know what you're going to get. Here's a list of the advantages I've found to using airbnb.
So I had never used airbnb before, I usually just stick to hostels, firstly because they’re cheaper and secondly because they’re a great way to meet new people, especially as a solo traveler. We decided to use airbnb for a few of our stays in America, because it worked out much cheaper. Hostels in many cities in the USA are expensive, like $40 each in some states. This time on my travels there were two of us, so it worked out cheaper to use airbnb. My first airbnb experience was in Austin, Texas where we got a room for $30 for us both, so it was $15 each where a hostel would’ve cost us $40 each, so we made a huge saving here.
When travelling, and after you've travelled to a few places and met a few people from all over the world. You'll often get invited to stay with them and their family when visiting their country. And you should definitely take them up on the offer.
Hostels are great fun, i love them, you get to meet loads of new people from all over the world, and you never know what you're going to be doing from one day to the next, or who you're going to meet. But i have had a few chances to stay with local families when travelling, and i have had incredible experiences, that i'll never forget.
